Diamond EducationThe 4 C's
Diamond Anatomy & Cut Quality
A diamond simply, is not just another diamond. There are 4 factors that ultimately impact its beauty & value.
Understanding the 4 C’s of Diamonds Shopping
Diamonds are graded on four different factors; cut, colour, clarity and carat weight. Learn more about these characteristics to ensure you choose the right diamond for you.
The clarity of the diamond is affected by imperfections such as darkness, blemishes and inclusions. They can interfere with light as it passes through the diamond, dulling the beauty and brilliance from the high quality cut.
The way a diamond is cut influences the way it reacts to light. A cut that is too deep or too shallow will yield next to no sparkle as light escapes from the sides and bottom of the diamond. The diamond cut refers to how well it is cut and polished and the symmetry of the stone too.
The colour of the diamond has a significant impact on its pricing. As diamonds display more of a tint of brown or yellow, they become less expensive.
Take note, valuable coloured diamonds are distinctively different than traditional ‘white’ diamonds.
Carat is the measurement of weight used when weighing diamonds.
One Carat of a diamond equals 0.2 grams.
